Sorry for the noob question, but my friend who owns all the equipment was supposed to come over to bottle. Long story short he can't for a few days and it's time to bottle. We didn't do secondary fermentation so we're pretty past that time/luxury. We're already at 2.5 weeks because of his schedule.

I have a second carboy. Could I transfer to that instead of a bucket and bottle from that? I don't have a good bucket to bottle from.

Thanks.

P.S. he just has a regular bucket. Not one with a spigot so I'd use the racking cane anyway right?

From the beer's p.o.v., there's no reason to rush. 2.5 weeks is nothin. Some ppl leave the beer in primary for months with no I'll effects.

That being said, there's no reason you couldn't bottle from secondary...or even from primary. You just want to be careful with the trub & not get too much in your bottles.

Thanks. I have read it's advisable to transfer to secondary fermentation if there's an expectation it will be awhile before bottling, in addition to other reasons to transfer. My next batch I may try it for a slightly clearer ale.

There's a pretty good number of people who use secondaries and a pretty good number who don't. Both ways can make great, clear, delicious beers. I'd say try both and see what you prefer. :)

I recently left a batch in primary for 5 weeks because I got lazy, it turned out to be the best beer i have ever made. I had originally intended to leave it in there for 3 weeks.
