Camco 5500W through a 1" hole?

Building an electric HLT with the Camco element. It's 1" and uses 1" washers and locknuts but the instruction on the Electric Brewery say to make a 1-1/4" hole in your kettle.
I plan on putting a few 1" holes in the HLT and other kettles so I'm wondering if I could buy just the 1" knockout punch and get the element to fit through a 1" hole instead.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The outside dimensions of a 1" pipe exceeds 1". The element won't fit in a 1" hole.

A 1" conduit punch has an actual diameter of 1.36"

You want a 1-1/4" Radio Punch or punch to 1" and drill it out a bit more with a large step bit.
