Going to add some bourbon and the wood soaking in it to a beer. Any way to calculate the ABV effect on the beer?

Sure,

What's the ABV of the bourbon?A
How much are you adding?B

What's the ABV of your beer?X
How much is there?Y

New ABV = (A*B + X*Y)/(B+Y)

(someone correct me if I'm wrong/there's an easier way)

Ultimately unless you have a reliable means to measure the alcohol content of your beer, this is just guesswork though.

5 gal of beer @ 11% +1/2 pint of Makers @ 45%...

ABV = (45%*.5)+(11%*(5*8)/(.5+(5*8))

ABV = 11.42%

Thanks!!

Now is .5 a pint enough bourbon for 5 gals? I know...add and taste but I want to know NOW!
