Burner Heat Shield question

Hey HBT, I bought a couple heat shields for my brew stand am not exactly sure how close to the bottom of the pot they should be. Right now they are flush with the bottom of the pot. I attached some pics below.

You'll wanna lower them and give room for the air and flame to escape and to draw fresh air up through the burner. Think putting a lid on a grease fire in a pan.

How far below the pot would you recommend?
 
Thanks for the responses everyone :D.

The burner is 3" below the bottom of the pot. I'll try dropping the heat shield down an inch and see how it reacts. I really wish the burners used sae threads, kind of a pain having to get metric bolts/threaded rod special ordered.
