We have a planter of basil growing on our back porch and a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that something was munching on it. A friend was over and said it looked like slugs to her. She said to just put a cup of beer near the planter and the slugs would go for that instead and drown in it. She asked if I had any beer I needed to get rid of and I couldn't think of a single beer in the fridge that I was willing to sacrifice. The next day this box showed up on my doorstep. Works like a charm. BTW, I discovered it was beetles, not slugs. Finally found a use for BMC!

I add a drop of soap to break the surface tension so they sink faster.

Yeah, some bugs have an oily exterior on their shells. The detergent is a good idea because it messes up anything that floats.
