Hey all,

Just dropping a line here to say Hi! I am beginning my journey into what I believe will be a life long obsession with Brewing. I began 4/10 with an all malt Pale Ale kit fermented in a 6.5 gallon glass car boy, close fermented at 60-62*F in basement w/ air lock. Moved to secondary 5 gallon glass carboy w/ air lock to encourage sedimentation and facilitate removal of krausen and Trub. Will be bottling into 22 oz Bottles 4/20. Started a Amber Sierra, that required some mashing of specialty grains, liquid yeast pitched from activator and now is entering day 2 of Ferment at 70-72*f in my living room wrapped in my fleece jacket. will be moved to secondary upon bottle of Pale Ale. Next in line is an all malt Oktoberfest imitation to begin 4/20 as well.

Last question I think i Just have newbie nerves But I have developed a bunch of small white circle on top of Secondary ferment of Pale ale that have no tendrils and dissipate with slight movement. Close inspection reveals thousands of itty bitty bubbles making up the white circles. I think that its just gas coming out of suspension after the racking or residual ferment because I racked it at 1.012 let me know what you all think.

Welcome. It would be very unusual to develop an infection in Secondary, it should be fine.

Welcome, and that's just co2 from fermentation coming out of solution. Over the next couple years you will experience some very ugly things in your fermenter. there is a 99.9999% chance it is not infection and that someone here has seen exactly what you have at least once. :D

Thats exactly what I thought but it is hard not to be paranoid. Its been in secondary since friday evening buts only cleared about an Inch but still 1.012 im not sure its going to clear any further and venture its about bottling time what the opinion?

yeah I heard that secondary was probably pointless, but I use it to allow me to begin fermentation in my 6.5 gallon car boy and then brew another batch right behind it. I really trying not to spend any more money on equipment for a while.

Just cause it's not dropping gravity isn't a reason to remove from secondary. Gravity should be finished dropping before racking to secondary (if used) anyway. secondary is a clearing and conditioning phase. I'd leave it in secondary until it's as clear as you want it, or you just can't stand it anymore and NEED to bottle it. This is perfectly acceptable with the excitement of your first couple brews! :D
