I just transfered from my primary to my keg with an auto siphon. It started off good for 20 seconds then I could start to hear the suction. I could see beer and bubbles in my hose going into the keg for the whole 5 gallons. Is this normal for an auto siphon. I figure I just help oxidize the hell out if my beer. Any thoughts?

I don't know, I had the same thing happen to me. I stopped the transfer and put a hose clamp on it. After that no bubbles in the line. Not saying it was air getting into the lines, but the hose clamps stopped the bubbles.

I agree with pompeiisneaks, I wouldn't worry too much. I had 3 or 4 batches that I racked and I saw bubbles in the line, but didn't do anything about it. They all turned out fine, I detected no oxidation in any of them.

i usually sanitized a peice of plastic bag, and put it over the auto siphon while i'm pushing the tubing onto it... it creates a better seal.. also, if you are getting bubbling around where the siphon and tubing come together, give it another solid pump or two till it clears.

Not sure I've seen issues with CO2 while transferring from 1* to 2*...

I'm Willing to bet it was air...if you don't have a tight seal with your tubing to the racking cane of the Autosiphon, you'll suck air...

I made this same mistake a few batches ago when I used 3/8 tubing by accident (use 5/16 as recommended by ArcaneXor).

As far as being oxidized, I'd not worry too much.

I doubt it CO2 as well because it did it when I autosiphoned starsan into my keg. It seems like a tight fit. I have a hell of a time getting the hoes on the cane and off again. Tried to pump it again like peach said, it worked for about 5 seconds. Ill try 5/16 next time.
