I have been making beer from extract kits , but I want to go to all grain. Problem is that in northern canada brew shops don't really sell grain or hops .But me and my brother will be driving down to Seattle , and I was thinking of stocking up and bringing it across the border. I don't know what the rules for it though . Doing can kits don't compare . I did a brewhouse all grain wort kit and loved it .

There SHOULD be no problem, as long as you can somehow prove it is malted barley and is now dormant. Make sure where ever you get it from states that very very clearly, and it is easy to understand. I work in the grain industry, and trying to send live grain (raw, unmalted, un processed) is like sending a virus across the boarder. They don't want what we have and we don't want what they have, and the paper work to get this done is murder.

There must be grains available in Vancouver or some other larger cities. I can get grains in Halifax, which is about 3.5 hours away, so I feel your pain.
We also have a few larger internet order shops in Canada, homebrewsupplies.ca is one.

But if you plan to bring something across the border, just double check with Canadian Border Services first and make sure you get a name with your reply, so when you actually get to the border, there is someone they can check with if unsure.

I would buy it in Vancouver, but the only place that I could find on the net is not open the day we leave.
