I am looking for a way to mark the gallons on my 30QT stainless steel brewpot. Any thoughs / experience? I'm not much on measuring each time ....

Thanks for the quick reply but what I'm looking for is a permenant way to mark the brewpot.... Stamping, engraving, anything someone has used .... Thanks.
engraving might be a problem, because you'd be scratching off part of the coating on the metal (I can't remember the name here.)
Stamping would probably be better since you would be doing less 'damage' to the metal itself, but stamping a curved metal surface might be a challenge.
How about a ruler of sorts (just a thin metal or wooden slat) that you can clamp to the side of the pot, much like a candy thermometer? Or, heck, just stand it up on end with the end touching the bottom of the pot of you don't need it to stay in place during the boil.
You could scratch or stamp the hell out of that slat without modifying your actual brew kettle at all. Clip it on when you need it and you can check the level.

I used a punch to mark the liter scale on my brew pot. Since my brew pot (turkey fryer pot) is cylindrical I measured it and calculated where to put the markings for each Liter. Every 5 liters I made 2 punches (from the outside). Make sure to punch hard enough such that you can see the punches from the inside. This will reqire some wood support from the inside when punching.
Some people mark the spoon with notches or make a dip-stick. But then you always need your spoon handy.
