Brewing beyond statute limits?

Since it doesn't seem like brewing less frequently is an option, why not brew smaller batches if you're worried?

^^^ This is sage advice. I live alone and when I try to feed myself I wind up with some 8-10 fajitas or something to eat by myself ._.;;

Fajitas don't age well either....

Ah, but many beer styles DO age well. Try brewing some Barleywine, Imperial Stout, biere de garde, doppelbock, etc., in between your "drinking" beers. After awhile, you'll have quite a beer cellar!

I've brewed 145 gals to date in 2008. 200 is the limit for our household. We'll see what happens, but I won't go broadcasting it on teh interwebz if I do go over.

Not sure about Maryland, but I know that VA has a limit as to how much you can give away...and that limit is 72oz (or, a sixer) per person per year. Now, of course, I've never broken THAT law. I'm an upstanding citizen!

The statute limits seem rather arbitrary to me- and frankly, LE officials have more pressing matters than regulating homebrew limits. Checking my notes, I've brewed 40 gallons since I started brewing about 6 months ago. With that kind of run rate, I certainly won't come close to 200 gallons for our household. Likewise, even if by some cosmic alignment I do hit that limit, I certainly won't be proclaiming it from the rooftops on public internet forums.

Our chief of police knows I brew. Next time we're talking and he brings it up, I'll suggest I brew more than 200 gal/year. I don't think it will even raise an eyebrow.

I did some searching to find out what my state says about homebrewing. Here in North Carolina the law doesnt mention anything about how much I can brew or give away or anything. Only says I cant sell it. I assume they fall back on the federal law of 100 per adult/200 per household but dont add any other restrictions. Kinda surprising to me since this is the heart of the bible belt. Hasnt been that long ago I couldnt even buy beer in my county.
