I brewed my first IPA and it turned out great. I used a kit for this last one, changed up a few things with the hops but it still turned out great. I have an idea of what hops I'd like to use for the next IPA (galaxy or centennial or citra), but i'd like to use a lighter malt than the kit I used last. I don't know how to mash or anything like that:

Can I just use a liquid malt extract? And does anyone have any suggestions on lighter malt extracts?
 
If you used dry extract the first time I don't know that liquid will get you a much lighter beer either. You could always try some pilsner malt extract, but it's difficult to brew light beers using extracts of any sort.
 
Why not use some Extra light liquid malt extract? That will give you a very light tasting IPA. I would recommend some crystal malt or some dexedrine malt to give it a bit more sweetness and body. After all, you may want some sweetness to balance out the hoppiness of the IPA.
Northern Brewer has a golden extract that has some Cara-pils (dexedrin) in it. They sell it for their Dead Ringer IPA and they also use 1# of light crystal malt with it.
Do you have any experience with making recipes? You could just post your idea for a recipe here and folks could give you more specific feedback.
 
You can use really any LME, but the lightest color and flavor will come from Extra light or Pilsner. If you want to ensure your color is on the lighter side, add the bulk of your extract (80+%) with about 15 minutes left in the boil. This will allow you to sterilize your extract while facilitating minimal wort darkening during the boil. You can always add a little corn/cane sugar to lighten the body. I wouldn't add much, if any, crystal malt to an extract IPA; you'll get plenty residual sweetness from the extract.
 
Because of the fact that malt extracts are already boiled, it is difficult to get the palest beers, especially as you're boiling it again and causing further caramelization of the sugars. Just for the sake of being devil's advocate, if you brew for taste, don't worry too much about the color!
 
Minton's extra light DME. Its about the lightest I have used. Added 3/4 of your extract in the last 10min of the boil to limit caramelization
 
BTW DME is generally lighter than lme because it is spray dried and not boiled to a syrup.

Check out that thread. I just use Pilsen Light LME that I get for $2/lb at the LHBS. I just tell them how much I want and they put it in a sealed plastic bag for me.

My IPAs all look the same. All the same color but taste different. I like to steep with honey malt and that'll give you some good sweetness if you use it. I use carapils for steeping too but I don't know if that does any good or not.
