Brewing an EKU right now...

Well, I think I am in the home stretch. Boiling 17 gallons down to 11. My target OG is 1.105. I am really close to that right now, so it should concentrate down to it. I did a refract and came out to about 12%. Damn I am good. Yeast starter is ready. WOO-HOO.....I will update in an hour 0r so......Right now I need to add the hops.....

Now adding 1/2 oz irish moss, and 1 servomyces cap. Last OG came in at about 1.085 adjusted, so should be close in about 15 min - 30 min. Will boil to desired effect.

ok, target OG was 1.105, I ended up with 1.098. Damn, just missed it. Refract says 12.5% abv, hydro says 13.5%, Oh well, Close enough I guess.....Yeast is in, lets see what happens. It is now 2:50 am here in Texas, bed time now.

Is that the EKU Kulminator 28? My book, Beer Captured shows the OG at 1.121 for a 5 gallon batch. Man am I jealous! I've been looking at that recipe for over a year. Keep us updated.

Close wild, I believe it is a slightly altered Optimator. I will update on the progress.

I used to drink EKU 28 when I was in Germany. We had to drink that in shot glasses to make it drinkable.

I used to drink it in Kulmbach, only about 35 miles from Bamberg.
