Brewin' in a Dry County!

Hello Everyone,

I live in Liberty, TN about an hour out of Nashville. The county I live in has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, but...YOU CANT BUY BEER HERE! So I started making my own. I've been doing extract brews about a year now and this weekend I plan to do my first all grain batch. I have been reading on this site about six months and thought I should finally go ahead and say hello

Thanks for all the info everyone has given me. I definately would not be doing an all grain brew if I had not found homebrewtalk.

We went to the Trials Training Center in Sequatchie, TN last year and it seemed the whole damn area was dry! Glad you found HBT!

We were lucky the flooding wasn't to bad where I live. The duplex where my wife and I used to live is in Nashville and it's now sitting in about eight feet of water.

A lot of the counties around me are "alochol free" counties too. Some of the ones that do allow alcohol sales only allow a limited number of liquor licenses to be purchased. The churches in the area usually buy up all of the licenses, basically making the county dry. It really is a constant struggle not to go on a shining-like killing spree.

I'm guessing you are west of Nashville as I am not familiar with Liberty county. I used to cover Knox to west of Cookeville. Welcome aboard & good luck on your firs AG. Have you got a really big pot? To me the biggest difference is it really takes a lot more time but my finished AG's are better than my extracts ever were.

Thanks everyone,

Liberty is the city name, it's in Dekalb county. I'm about 60 miles east of Nashville.

I think I've planned this weekend's brewday to death. I have been thru it step by step about a hundred times in my head. I have also plugged all the numbers in to brewsmith several hundred times. My starter is at home churnin away on the stirplate as I sit at work surfing the web, oops, I mean, um... working. The yeast are just as excited about this saturday morning as I am!

Yah, this site certainly helped me more than my local homebrew club. I need to get around to ponying up some cash for a full membership.
