I am trying to shorten my chilling time. I currently use a BM20L and an immersion chiller and it still takes 30 mins just to get down to high 60s low 70s.

Was toying with the idea of adding a plate chiller. I currently gravity feed into the fermenter but I do have a pump also that I use to pump into my conical for lagers.

Anyone that uses a plate chiller with the BM a few questions

1. What do you use to keep the chiller from clogging? I use a hop spider, but there is still a lot of crap in the bottom.

2. Can you gravity feed the chiller or would it be better to use the pump? If use the pump....what is your connections, do you drain into the pump then pump through the chiller with a valve exiting the chiller?

Just as an additional question.

What are you braumeister users using to help block the trub getting into your chillers?

I am usually just a tip it forward and drain what I can, but with a chiller I would prefer it not get plugged up. I currently use hop bags, so I am mainly concerned about the other protein gunk in the bottom.
