brass fittings

I would like to put a drain valve in my 10 gal brew pot can you put brass fittings in, I mean is it safe?

I used brass for most of my fittings until just recently. If you're concerned about the surface lead on brass fittings search on here for "pickling brass". I did this once, I guess it made me feel better.
