hi all. been looking into this for a while. name is don. looking to brew some irish stout and harp. i wanted to do this into mini kegs. i did try to ask a supplier what i need on one of those online chats but he kept asking me what supplies i needed. well, i dont know. so first off can you guys tell me what i need as far as gear to start? keep in mind i have nothing. going to get a pot tonight. im putting these mini kegs into an edgestar mini keg dispenser. they sell that with the co2 conversion kit. also i did find out i may not need a secondary fermenting vessel due to the kegs? cant wait:ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban:

Welcome!

Brewing a stout as your first beer won't be a problem. A Harp clone will be more of a problem, its a light lager, a lot more challenging to brew for a homebrewer. Maybe its something you can work up to.

You'll need a basic equipment kit, many of the online retailers here offer them, for around $80. Check out Austin Homebrew Supply and Northern Brewer, I know they have good beginner equipment kits for around that price, plus shipping.

Another good deal, I think, is at http://www.breworganic.com/singlestagebreweryplasticwithorganicbeerkit.aspx - a beginner equipment kit and an organic ingredient kit, everything you need to brew your first beer, for $95. They've got an Irish Stout ingredient kit at http://www.breworganic.com/organicirishstouteasybrew.aspx

One final piece of advice about kits - for the ingredient kits, do yourself a favor and get the dry yeast, at least for your first few brews. Its just much easier and worry-free.

Cheers!

I'm also brand new to homebrewing and bought my first kit from heartshomebrew. I made the mistake of buying a three layer Belgian ale with it thinking I love Belgians. But I soon realize I need to get another recipe that's much easier. Good luck on ur new hobby
