Bottom drain keggle - Weld an elbow?

If I am going to fit a bottom drain to my keggle, is there any reason I shouldn't have a welder weld it directly, rather than attach a coupler or spud and screw the elbow in?

Other than modularity, no. I cannot think of a good reason.

I wouldn't weld the elbow on, if something ever falls and gets stuck It's much easier to remove the elbow.

I'd definitely weld a spud in. If you ever wanted to scratch it, all it takes is a 1/2" plug and you don't end up with a cavity that can collect gunk (the elbow).
