I just got all setup to bottle and realized I was out of corn sugar. Haven't run into this problem before. Can I use white, granulated sugar? How about brown sugar? I assume I'd need different amounts? Is the process different? How do they affect final taste?

I've got 5 gallons of IPA that's been dry hopping for almost 2 weeks in the car boy (after 1 week in the primary).

Thanks.

You should be using weight to measure your priming charge, and in that case granulated table sugar will work 1:1 to corn sugar. Don't know about brown sugar but it's likely to be in the ball park unless it's super damp...

Cheers!

Regular granulated sugar from the store works fine. About 1 ounce of sugar per gallon of beer you have, depending on style.

Cane sugar, brown sugar, honey, DME, LME, molasses, fruit juice, fruit puree, maple syrup, agave syrup - anything with fermentable sugar.

Thanks all. Appreciate the quick responses.

I had checked this calculator - but I wasn't sure what table sugar counted as in this list. Sucrose??

Yes, table sugar (both cane and beet) is sucrose.

Brew on :mug:
