so im trying to cut costs, and went to a few bars to get empties instead of buying from lhbs. i dont care on color becuase im never drinking outside, there alwasy in dark pantry or fridge.

But, mostly i got all twist tops. (now it seems all bud, miller ect escept corona is going twist) but i heard not to use those.

i have a few normal ones i can use, but i also got some big wine bottles that use cork.

Would it work fine to get go buy some corks and use these?

If you get the right supplies (cappable bottles) you wouldn't be in this situation.

Find a place that has bottles that are not twist offs and ask them for the bottles. Leave your number and tell them you're willing to pick them up nightly, or the next morning. Be sure to follow- up and collect them.

Two days ago I got 12 German 1/2 liter bottles from a local German restaurant...they just toss them with the trash.

Now, get rid of all the twist-off bottles.

Yes, you can cork beer in wine bottles, but that's not very economical. Corks cost more than caps.

Wine bottles are a no-go in general; they're not designed to hold pressure. They might work, but they can crack or explode easily.

Champagne or carbonated cider bottles are another story, and there are no problems with them.

I have amassed about 8 cases of bottles by A) drinking beer (the bottles are free) and 2) asking one or two people to save me some.
Aside from the wine bottles probably not holind pressure, the cork will likely get pushed out as well.

If the wine bottles hold pressure, they'll still push the corks out and give you random beer geysers. Not a good thing all around.

If you have or can get you hands on a bench capper, the twist off bottles could still be used.
