First time Brewer here. I bottled an American wheat beer last week and got impatient and opened a couple today just for the hell of it. Both of them started over flowing as soon as I opened them. It had been fermenting in a glass carboy for 5 weeks so I assumed it was done and I used 5oz priming sugar and also made sure to mix it up well. Is this something that will take care of itself or are these potential bombs here?

It could be over-primed, because you had a stuck fermentation or it could be an infection (fusarium or aspergillus).

What was your OG and FG? 5 oz shouldn't be too much priming sugar. If they are all like that, you might want to chill them and drink them up before they explode. How did it taste? You could also vent a recap a couple of them and see what happens in a week.

I tried to keep everything as sanitary as possible but my first time doing this maybe I slipped up somewhere

Didn't do the OG and FG thing but I think I might need to next time...the taste was ok tho I think a lil more time will be good if they don't explode

You likely ok. Being only a week most of the generated CO2 has not had a chance to absorb in the liquid. If the beers were not chilled or had only been chilled a few hours it would make the foaming more pronounced.

Stick one or two in the fridge for 3-4 days then try it. Chilling it down this long helps get the CO2 into the beer, and should stop the excessive foaming you are seeing.
