Howdy fellow Brewers,
I've been brewing for about 3 years now and have loved every minute of it. My brewing partner and I have done a wide range of batches, from tripels to cranberry mead to double stouts. Everything, save for an Octoberfest that got too hot, has turned out excellent. So far we have only done extract and partial mash recipes, and probably won't be stepping up to all-grain anytime soon. Extract is just quicker and easier and comes out fantastic besides.
Currently got a Rye IPA in primary. We'd been using the standard plastic bucket/carboy and stovetop boiling/immersion chiller for our brewing, but recently I started getting frustrated with having to split 5 gallon batches, so I decided to buy some toys for my own side projects. Heh heh.
I purchased a 12.5 gal stainless steel conical fermenter, Bayou Classic SP10 and 60qt kettle with weldless conversion valve. Also will be making a counterflow chiller in the next couple days. Now I'm just waiting for the last few warm days of the year to burn off so I can start brewing some big batches (no brew fridge or keg system... yet!)
I pretty much love all beer, but my favorites are Belgians and Big American Reds. Also, love traditional German Pils. Just starting to get into Lambics.
On the personal note: I am a graduate student at Purdue University. I am deaf and I know American Sign Language. I run about 25 miles a week, which helps to keep off the pounds from all the beer I drink. Lol.
Looking forward to learning around here!
