If I have a pot that can handle a boil over without spilling out, should I let it happen? Why and/or why not? Explain.

A good hot break won't hurt anything. As long as you have the space, I say go for it.

Boil over by definition is a spill over the top. If you get an initial hotbreak that stops just short of that, then you are just fine. The problem with a boilover is the mess and the waste.
As an aside, I boil 6.5g in a 7g BK. I use fermcap, watch carefully and cut back on the gas just as I get the hotbreak and don't get a spillover.

Yup, digital thermometer in the boil pot set to buzz at 209*. Then one hand on the gas controller and in the other a spray bottle w/water. No boil overs since I started that.
