Hi people. I am very new to this area and I would be very thankful if some gives me introduction to it.

I would like to build some small Building Management System (or Building Automation System) for my home.

I know how to write code, but there is very little literature about the BAS(BMS) architecture.
As i understood, i should have a PLC table (Controller table or however it's said) in which my lights, motions sensor and etc will pin in.

I read about some protocols like MODBUS, BACnet, Lonworks and I could not understand how to connect a PLC table to a PC so I could do a programming.

I would like to measure the spent electrical power from various devices and turn on/off a couple of lights.

Can someone explain me or give me some introduction or even an reference, where I can read about this. I would like to create a little software for these few modules (measure power, turning lights on/off).

Thank you in advance

I think you should look up "DIY home automation" instead of BAS or BMS.
Most BMS for commercial/ industrial/ govt/ institution facilities are made by a private company that has strengths and weaknesses.

The big names are Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Schneider Electric (formerly TAC, Andover Controls), Logical Automation, etc.

I think most of them you have to buy products from a sales rep, and they haven't really gotten into the home/ residential market aside from thermostats, AC/ HP/ boiler controllers.

Just my thoughts as someone who works in the BMS/BAS industry.
