Hey fellow brewers. I was reading some where on a forum, mighta been here, that some one brewed a batch of wheat beer and instead of adding fruit, they dumped blueberry syrup in the wort,or fermenter,I forget which.Anyways, what are your thoughts on this process.I want to have the flavor w/o using fruit, but will use the bottled flavoring as a last resort.Would syrup in the wort be better? What hops would you use to counter the sweetness and balance the brew?I't something to think about, and I could use some advice. TIA Randolf. BTW,if using the syrup what are your suggestions of how much to use?

Depending on what type of syrup you use there may be quite a bit of sugar, so you'd probably want to account for those fermentables in your recipe. Whole fruit doesn't have that much sugar per unit of volume so generally doesn't alter the gravity of the average beer significantly. Either way, unless you're using a product with artificial sweetener it's not going to lead to any sweetness as all the sugars will ferment out.
