Hey guys

Need a new brew kettle and thinking of getting into electric. My question is could I get by with the 240v boil coil with a 15 gallon G2 as seen here? http://shop.greatfermentations.com/...ectric-boilermaker/blichmann-electric-brewing

My electric stove pot is weak and before I go out and buy a propane burner maybe this is the better idea. Will this allow me to do full boils? What would the max boil size be? Thanks

Scott

Read around on this forum some more.

Electric is the way (IMHO) to go but you're going to need some controls too. So it's a lot more expensive to get into electric than propane, but you can brew year round, wet or dry, hot or cold.

Propane is cheap. You can get into the game for a few hundred bucks.

Thanks. There is an overwhelming amount of info here. I think I'm gonna start with propane and continue to research ebrewing.

You can always start with propane and move into electric later, but much harder to go the other way around. If cost is a factor as it is for most of us, start collecting parts that can repurposed later for electric brewing. As to your initial question though, yes if you can run it, a 240v 15g G2 will certainly get a full boil with a boilcoil.

Blichmann sizes the boilcoils per the pot size. I've got the 10 gallon and I can get 7 gallons of wort to a hard boil from mash temps in about 15 minutes and have to dial back my controller to about 80% to not boil off too much.

I'm using a simple dial controller made from a kit from Still Dragon. HERE is the link to the controller kit.

I've been really happy with Great Fermentation's service.

I agree. Love my boil coil. I use a kal clone control panel.
