My latest brew, a porter, failed to bottle condition. There is a tiny pffft when I open it, and I can detect very slight carbonation while drinking it, but it really is too flat for my taste. Also, though the flavor and body are just about where I wanted them, I want a bit more hops. So yesterday I bought a six pack of IPA and mixed a half bottle of it with a half bottle of mine and the result was really good. It isn't what I was targeting for my original porter recipe...the blend is lighter in body than what I wanted, and a bit too hoppy, but it is better than the unblended flat porter.

Anybody else do blends?

I probably would have consumed all of the porter as it is (it reminds me of some draft beers I had in England), but I like it better this way.

Something i really should keep in mind - if it works don't break it!

Apparently, a lot of commerical beer breweries do some sort of blending - thats what i read a week ago anyhow.

I love blending beers and I actually starting doing it by mistake. I like having a lighter beer, pale ale and an IPA in the pipeline. Recently I did a mosaic pale ale and it was just fantastic. The IPA I made was a high IBU beer and my taste buds and or food sometimes clashed with the the bitterness. So, I blended the IPA with 1/3 Kolsch or 1/3 Mosaic and wow it all started. Now I'm trying all kinds of blends and enjoying the experimentation.

Same here. I have done this for years. Started when I brewed an APA that was just to heavy and too strong. Mixed with BMC...awesome!
Actually think that there may exist a commercial market for such a product.
