Hi all.

Today I brewed an APA and used my copper wort chiller as normal. I let it soak in idophor for about and hour before using it. After using it and removing it from the wort I noticed black stuff on it that I could wipe off. It had a sort of copper penny smell. I hope this had not damaged by batch.

The process I used today is not different to previous batches, but only noticed it today. Perhaps the chiller was a bit dirty. I normally just rinse it after use.

I don't know about the black stuff. Maybe some kind of reaction to the Iodaphor. Maybe just something that should be in the wort that stuck to the chiller. Maybe something got scorched. But if it came off I would not worry too much.
Let it ferment. I would think that if it was anything bad the beer won't taste good.

Why were you soaking it in Iodaphor? Just put it in the pot a few minutes before the end of the boil. The boiling as steam will sanitize it.

If it's going into the fermenter hot, I'd still just drop it in without the soak. Don't think anything should be growing in your copper coil, anyway.
