I've been growing pretty fond of the Black IPA (American Dark Ale, Cascadian Dark Ale) style lately and I really want to try my hand in making one. I can't find much in the way of good recipes for this style and was wondering if someone could tell me what goes into making a stellar example of this style.

I have one in my rotation.

8oz debittered black
4oz. C80
7lbs light DME

Chinook,Cascade,Willamette to 66 ibu's. Dry hop with Cascade , Centenial (1oz each)

Nice balance

I was pretty sure the debittered malt was an important component to this style, but only about half of the recipes I've found so far include it.

Wow, this brew looks like a beast.

It's the best one I have had even beats commercial version IMHO. The beer bar I go to has Dad's Little Helper Black IPA on tap all the time. I get it but am always disapointed that it isn't this beer.

I like that one, but I definitely think it's lacking in late hop additions or possibly short on dry hopping.
