Best equipment for gravity measurements?

I have a triple scale floating hydrometer...my question is this: what is the best equipment to actually hold the test material?

I really like my wine thief I can collect measure and sample from one vessel or I can pour the wort back in safely if I choose.

I love my fermtech wine thief. I store my hydrometer right in it. Sanitize everything, dip, and release the beer back in (some would say a no-no, but I've never had any issues).

That being said, I now use a refractometer instead.

how do u measure it in the wine thief itself? do you just dip it with the hydrometer already in it and measure that way?

You can but what I do is dip the thief then spin the hydrometer into it. My hydrometer fits right in my wine thief. I think I have the same one mentioned above. Some people just use a sanitized turkey baster to grab the sample and dump that into a test vessel like a test tube with a base.
