It's always hard to remember this ****, but some highlights:
Toppling Goliath Assassin 2018: My favorite beer I had at Wakefest last February (I think I drank 4 pours while everyone was lined up for Wakefield's pastry stouts) and I'm no huge TG stout fanboy. Got the chance to try it from the bottle a few weeks ago and it was one of my favorite beers at a very large share that included some strong hitters. Proof that a great BA stout doesn't need a ton of **** added to it.
Veil Lord Whangdoodle: But if you are going add a ton of **** to them, make them like this. Cinnamon, vanilla, maple bourbon barrels, honey bourbon barrels, yadda yadda yadda. My friend got a mag of this and people wanted to do an iceman pour into this oversized Veil wine glass I have for trolling pics, so I said sure and intended to dump half of it into someone else's glass later. I wound up drinking the whole thing, the flavors are well-integrated and it's sweet but not cloying. By far the best pastry stout I had this year. People can **** on the Veil all they want for their lame social media presence and stylistic focuses, they make some damn good beer among all the silliness.
Afterthought Tradition: Vermouth Barrel:
Thorpe is pumping out some crazy good mixed fermentation saisons at Afterthought, and this was a standout among those I've had the chance to try. Unique character from the vermouth barrels that highlights the best aspects of the base beer.
Suarez Palatine Pils: Not much to say here, it's just so damn perfectly made.
Cantillon Lambic d'Aunis: Thanks
Gonzoillini! Best new lambic I had all year, and 2nd best lambic after Zenne y Frontera b1, which I've had before but not out of a decanter, might as well be a different beer and wow is it ever good served that way - how did this comment end up being all about Zenne b1? Anyway, Lambic d'Aunis is pretty awesome.
Not a new beer, but
Hill Farmstead Double Citra remains my favorite IPA and probably favorite beer period.
