Hello I'm kind of stumped. The last two extract kits I have brewed have carbonated after sitting in the bottles for two weeks, but there is no head at all to these beers. I just brewed an imperial nut brown ale kit. Almost looks like ice tea in my glass. The other kit was a red ale did the same thing. Not sure what's going on followed everything by the books. Any info/advice would be helpful

Yes the beers hiss when I pop the cap, but when I poor there is best to no head at all, and I have cleaned my bottles with oxyclean free for the first two batches but the last batch I switched to 1 step to clean everything

If you aren't rinsing well you may still have enough cleaner residue to cause the lack of heading. That also goes for the glassware you serve in. Many people wash their glassware in the dishwasher. That works fine if there is no anti-spotting agent like Rinseaid used. The anti-spotting agents are like detergents and will kill the heading on the beer.

Another factor could be the maturing of the beer. If I don't give the beers enough time in the bottles to mature they don't have much head.

Try steeping some carapils. I began steeping few ounces of carapils with every kit and it really helped. If ur bottling try using a tad more sugar. Be careful though.

I actually came up with 4 1/2 gallons this time but still used the recommended sugar for 5 gallons
