Beans?

I just got to wondering, considering all the possible ingredients out there for beers and what not, has there aver been anyone to try to make a beverage out of beans by doing the same basic thing as with beer; germinate the seeds, dry and roast, etc, etc?

I had a beer from Bear Republic, Clobberskull I believe, that was brewed with peas. Maybe hit them up for some insight.
