Anyone in the Cincy area of Ohio, how is Barrelhouse? Brewed in Cincy, and I saw this online somewhere. I've had a beer brewed there, the Wooden Shoe Lager, made for a place in Minster Ohio using an old time recipe, but I haven't had anything under the company name. I'd like to know more about it, mostly if it's worth going out of my way to get up here.

sorry a reply has taken so long. i'm still new here and just found it. Barrelhouse closed as a brewpub a few years ago but they are now strictly a microbrewery and sell kegs as well as have taps at a number of local restaurants. They also bottle 22oz'ers of about 4 or 5 styles. Worth picking up the Hefe, Cumberland Pale, Dortmunder and Double Dark IPA. The RedLegg is OK too (just not my fav)

and I JUST SAW TODAY... that they have bottles of their Oktoberfest available too. :ban:

old thread here, but I had to comment....

When I lived in Cincy, the Barrelhouse pub (on 12th street, right?) was my favorite place to go see live music and drink good beer. I met my wife there (she worked there), and after a night of her bringing me free porters, I knew she rocked.

Any time I am back in Cincy, I always try to buy every 22oz bottle of Barrelhouse beer that I can find in the grocery stores. The Cumberland pale ale is pretty easy to get, but I haven't ever seen the porter in bottles.

Does anyone even remember what the name of the porter was?

All I can remember is Cumberland Pale, and Sternwheeler Stout.

Same here, Walker. When I lived there in 2000-01 it was a fav of mine. They had a "Real Firkin Ale" from a real firkin they served at room temp and I loved it.

I haven't had any of their bottled brews - do they sell it outside of Cinci at all?

I believe it is Powderhorn Porter - though I don't think they make it any longer.

As far as I know, they don't sell outside the Nati. Hell.. the stuff is even hard to find IN the city. I drove all over hell and back last time I was there trying to find some and only managed to locate it at a Biggs on the west side of town. I literally bought every damn bottle they had, too.

Powderhorn? Doesn't ring a bell to me, but my memory is fading. I drank that one almost exclusively, but was there often enough that I never had to say anything by name. I just walked in and they would have one poured for me before I got across the room to the bar. :D

I rented that place out for a night in 2001 and had a MASSIVE party there for my wedding. God, I was trashed.....

hah hah... good times. The Nati brings back good memories.

I wonder if Jungle Jims would carry the Barrelhouse beers? They have everything else there.

Barrelhouse has closed and sold all of their equipment. While you can still find some bottles at Party Source, they are sure to be soured, as nearly every bottle they've turned out for months has been infected.

A once great brewery that just stopped caring.
