Barleywine Bottles

I want to do a barley wine and put it in those little 7 or 8 oz bottles. I have seen them sold at my LHBS but I would spend close to 100 dollars to get enough. Does anyone know of anything that uses brown 7-8 oz pop top bottles. I know some sodas do but they are all clear.

Isn't Malta Goya sold in 7 oz brown bottles? Can't remember if they're pop-tops or not though.

I don't know how many little mexican shops are in newark, but there are several VERY cheap mexican sodas that come in those bottles.

I have picked up a few beers with 11.2oz flip top bottles at a local grocery store (Woodman's). I know it may not be as small as you would like, but I think they would be nice for bottling more special brews. I cannot remember what type of beer it was, other than German, but a Google search reveals that Schwelmer Schwelmer Beer Imports North America, Inc. - Homepage - Brewing since 1830 uses that size of bottle for some beers.

Clear or green soda bottles, use an opaque box, no problem. Beats $100 for brown bottles at the store for my money. Wrap the whole bottle in aluminum foil (or a brown paper bag ) if you need to present one as a gift or the like.

OV (Old Vienna - brewed by Molson in Canada) used to be available in "splits" which were 6.5 or 7 oz bottles, though I don't even recall if they were clear or brown, and web searching makes me wonder if they are even still available. 15 years ago in upstate NY they were - I have not seen them in Mass, but I have not really been looking, either.

I picked up an 8-pack of baby Miler lite for just the same purpose. They are twist-offs, but I have heard that a bench capper should work fine, so I'm going to try it.

Those work great - just store them in boxes to keep them out of the light.

I have used 6oz. old acl pop bottles for 3 years now. Collected them at flea markets.
Many more beers per batch... I have never had a problem w/ clear glass, I keep my beer in the dark till use it anyway. M&M
