Can someone please explain to me the benifits of a ball and lock system vs the other opions out there?

Also if I get a ball and lock corny what else will I need to make it work?

The difference is that they take different fittings to connect into a system. The reason most folks shun pin lock kegs is simply because ball locks are easier to find. So, if you start with a pin lock keg or two and want to add another keg, then you either need to try to find another pin lock or you have to buy new fittings for your new keg. Both work equally well.

You're going to need a CO2 take, gas regulator, fittings for the keg, gas lines, beer lines and some kind of tap along with something to put it all in to keep it cold. The tap can be anywhere from a fancy tap mounted on a tower or through the wall of a fridge down to a cobra tap on the end of a hose inside the kegerator. For a kegerator, you can use a fridge or a chest freezer with a temperature controller. You can make it as fancy or as simple as you want.
