Back in Iraq!

Well I've been in Iraq for my second tour for about half a week now. It's not so bad, but I could use a good pint about right now. We had near beer (NA) the other day and it tasted like ****. Skunked and DMS was very noticeable. The good new is I will come back with around 30 grand in the bank so I can get all kinds of cool brewing stuff when I get back. My father in law is working on my fermentation room, brutus 10, and growing my hops right now. Damn, I can't wait to get back

When I was there, we had only one beer day. I opted for 2 guinesses over bud light, and bud. ****, those 2 beers gave me a good buzz. I'm glad I'm home now and brewing again. Good luck over there and stay safe.

Theoretically speaking, wouldn't it be possible to brew up a batch in the big sandbox? I mean, assuming you could get everything you needed, and assuming you knew some people in the kitchens. Obviously some changes would have to be made.

Instead of a primary bucket, you could use a sterilized 5 gallon water can. Keeping the wort cool would be tough, but I imagine a deep hole in the shade would do the trick, bury the primary with only a homemade snorkel like airlock tube for CO2 blow off. Bottling would be a trick though, but if your higher ups were in on it, maybe it could be done.

I know, this is a pipe dream, an impossibility. My chain of command would have had kittens if they even heard rumors of us brewing our own beer in the field or on a deployment. Still, it's an interesting dream.

Yes, if one was willing to take the risk of being quickly and painfully kicked out of the military when one got caught. Not worth it.

I say we all save a home brew for this guy and once he gets home, we send some to him in the mail...he'd be blitz for a week and be able to spend more tax free money on homebrewing and less at the distributor...and he'd have plenty of good beer to drink until he gets caught up!!
