So I get this le crueset large au gratin dish as a gift, and couldnt wait to try it out this Thanksgiving. My Au gratin potatoes with goat cheese that I made last year were great, and everybody wanted to eat them again.

We made way too much food this year, and ran out of serving room on the table, so I wound up bringing dish around starting with my dad. Keep in mind my dish was too hot and I was using pot holders. My dad gets 2 small scoops on his plate and the damn thing slipped out of my hands and went face down on the carpet. Potatoes went all over me, the wall, everywhere.

Our English bulldog came in full speed like a mac truck, only to be followed by Hans our dachshund. They both buried their faces, mmmmmmm goat cheese.
We found potato across the living room from where pieces had rolled off like wheels off a race car.

I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs. I calmly sat down and finished thanks giving dinner with the in law as the tension rised. All in all it was still a good thanksgiving after a few minutes passed.

(luckily the dish landed on carpet, and not hard floor or it might have been ruined)

Here is the recipe, try it and do the plop!

You broke the Higher Cheese Preservation laws --goat cheese does not belong in au gratin recipe...

Just like folks putting real Roquefort in salads... it freaking Roquefort, people..!

Uh...er, was I too harsh...!??

Ok cheese police, I will lay the log down slowly!

It was emeril's dish he kinda knows what he is doing.

Emeril is a ****** canoe up there with Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay.

That said, most fat chefs at least have a few delicious recipes up their sleeves. ;)

Ok so who is good then I am curious?

Alton Brown is a good COOK, but I wouldn't call him a chef. He creates excellent basic versions of recipes and gives you the science behind them so you can modify them to your taste.

Most of Bobby Flay's recipes are pretty tasty, but he is so full of himself and thinks that Mexican food is some gourmet experience. I'm sorry, it's not. The essence of Mexican cuisine is street food- which there's nothing wrong with, but don't put all of your sauces in bottles and squirt them all over the food like it's some culinary gourmet masterpiece.

Sarah Moulton had very good food. I hated watching her though, she's boring.

There are a number of food bloggers that are excellent cooks as well, and I'd like to think that Anthony Bourdain is a great chef, based on how he describes his love for food, but I've never had one of his dishes, so I couldn't tell you.

Alton Brown in my opionion is the best cook on TV. He teaches you how to cook and not just make one dish that will cost 5000 dollars to make.

That doesn't sound too appetizing. :D

LOL oh come on!

Joking aside these are great potatoes. My BD gave them a salute of flatulence. PSSSSTT!

Yeah I like Alton the most, but like stated he isnt really a chef. Bobby Flay I think does have an arrogant personality, and I do agree on the whole squirt bottle thing.

Emeril cooks good and has a very successful career. I really wouldn't call him ******, he has done something right.

Seriously? You're putting goat cheese on a pedestal? Roquefort is one thing, but plain old goat cheese can go into any damn recipe as far as I'm concerned.

Shame about the potatoes. Bet they went plop more than once...
