So I'm at the hospital with my wife who's has just begun to go into labour. As she drifts off to sleep my mind starts to wonder and drift. How will this little man affect my brewing, will I still be able to brew, when will I brew again. Any new dads or moms out there with some good advice and tips.

You'll have less free time, be deprived of sleep, you'll need to plan things ahead, yet, make good use of opportunities when they present themselves, be prepared for the plans you made to be changed, last minute. Be inventive.

Otherwise, enjoy parenthood. Raising kid(s) is marvelous. They will definitely complicate your life, and it is all worth it. Mine is 21 now, and he doesn't drink. So what does that tell you?

If I have a few bits of advice to give, I think arranging with your wife to each have blocks of time to yourself while the other takes care of the child(ren) helps enormously. You'll also need to make time for the 2 of you together, and third, don't have (too) many children.

Just got my 10 month old down for his morning nap, about to go keg 10 gallons I brewed a few weeks ago after his bed time. If you want to make it work, you'll make it work. I wish I could say I've kept my pipeline up, but I haven't at times. It hasn't bothered me a bit and I've been brewing more than ever now that my wife can enjoy my brews again. The biggest thing is to be flexible, but try to plan as far ahead as humanly possible with your brewing. Good luck!

Congrats, parenthood is the best "job" I have ever had. It is truly a blessing. As mentioned previously in the early years it is all about time management. Our son is now 12, he is my dedicated brew assistant (by choice). He has a very good grasp of the science of the brewing process and has used his knowledge to compose a couple of papers for school. Best wishes to you and the Mrs. here to a safe,speedy delivery.

Fantabulous! Children seem overwhelming at first but it takes not time to fall into a routine and get comfortable. As far as brewing goes I don't think your little fella will keep you from brewing as long as you're not a dead beat and make your wife do all the work. "Successful" parenting is THE team sport.

That being said, as soon as you have your second, you're screwed.

Congratulations Mobeers!!! My son was born November 1, and I did not brew for about three months after that. You eventually will get back into the routine once you figure out how to include being a parent into it. It'll all work out. Congrats again and Cheers!

I have two kids, 4yo boy and 9mo girl. Brewing with kids presents its challenges but it can be don. My son even gets in on the action now.

When you get home for your first night with the little one, the oh crap its real now feeling sets in. Nothing like it, and nothing better.

It won't effect anything.. Kids are easy when they're young. And when they get older, you make them scrape labels and sanitize bottles. If your hobby was triathlons it might be different, but brewing with kids is pretty easy. Congrats on the new arrival! You have to show us a pic now!

Hopefully you got some good brew in stock and plentiful. I got a feeling you are going to be enjoying the little guy way too much to even think about brewing. My little girl is now 3 and the time flies. She's pitching in on the brew days and lovin' it.........for now.

Congratulations! Yes, life will change, but I would not trade it for anything. Every few years seems to be a new adventure. At first he is helpless, then quickly he will think he is independant, but still need you for everything (terrible twos). Everything seems to change quickly, and before you know it he will be asking for the car keys and you will be locking up the beer taps to keep his friends out of your good beer. The time taken away from brewing will hopefully be some of the best time you get to spend with your son - that is until he can help you brew, and then you have the best of both worlds.

She's here, she's here! After 23 hours of labor and fun, a healthy baby girl arrived this morning! She's 6 lbs/7oz and 19.25" Long. Mom and baby are doing great!
