Are these growlers ok?

My mom gave me these. I was wondering if they look good for carbonation and bottling. I was thinking about maybe giving them some extra tightness with some channel locks.

They will work fine for holding already carbed beer. But I wouldn't prime and bottle condition in them. They are known to explode from time to time. They are only meant to hold already carbonated beer.

I have one like the clear one you have. I used it for beer but was advised not to so I transferred it. It had been in the growler for one week and I noticed a small crack running up and down. Now I just use it for yeast starters. It works well for that purpose.

Thanks for the info. I will not carb in them but at least I have something for yeast starters.
