Got a couple of cheap kits from NB. Mashing in my grainfather and notice these little white things floating at the top. Upon further review they don't look segmented or anything like a bug. Ps. 9lbs of German pilsner crushed and then sent from northern brewer.
 
An AB backed venture capital group owns NB. AB brews with rice 'cause it lightens the beer cheaply. Connection? I dunno.

Those are endosperm of malted barley...

No worries. I've had maggots in a beer, and those are not maggots (which have little black eyes at one end). Probably just unmilled barley germ.
