I just bought an Oatmeal Stout beer kit which i never have tried before, but reading about these many say its too bitter as is.Are they really that bitter? I love stouts but should i add something to sweeten it up and what? Or is that just the nature of this and shlould be left well alone.

I haven't brewed an oatmeal stout yet, but I've never encountered any commercial ones that are overly bitter. The oatmeal mostly affects mouthfeel, so any excess bitterness is more likely to be caused by too much roasted barley.

Bitterness of an oatmeal stout is in the palate of the person drinking the beer or an improperly brewed beer which is truly bitter.
The oatmeal stouts I have done are smooth, creamy, with a hint of dry roasty flavor at the end.

Stouts should be on the malty side for sure. If it's bitter, just cut out some of the bittering hops. What's the target IBU of the recipe and what does the hop schedule look like including variety, boil time and AA%?

this is a oatmeal stout from Brewers Best, ibu-28-38, hops 1 oz brewers gold boil at 60 minutes abv 5.6- to 6.0
