Those are some cheap prices. I have never bought from them. I'm kind of reluctant to buy a pound at a time because I'm worried I would not use them quick enough. To many hop varieties to little brew time kind of situation. However, it is very good find and might encourage me to brew even more.

Whats up with whole leaf prices being so much more? Harder to store? bigger to ship?

But the pellets have to be processed... what gives?

Whole hops take up about 5 times as much space. I've got a pound bag of Columbus pellets that is smaller that a 4 ounce bag of Cascade.

Amen to that, finally this BS hop shortage price gouging crap is over and done.

Don't count on it. Hop crops vary a great deal year to year and much of the new acreage will go to the big breweries. One of the factors in the 2007 shortage was the backlog of tetra-isomer was used up, so they are buying real hops. As one brewer put it, "Craft brewing is a bucketful out of the ocean and homebrewing is a drop in that bucket."

Saw this yesterday. Their ordering system still wasn't updated as it reflected the old prices. I wrote them and it was all updated last evening. You really can't beat these prices, 'specially since they usually pack their stuff a little heavy;)

If you store them sealed in the freezer, you're keeping them in the same conditions as they are. If you buy hops a few months from now, they are likely to be from the same harvest.

A foodsaver was one of the best purchases I ever made.

David,

I hear yuh, I have pounds and pounds of leaf & pellets. I just dont see how storing the whole leaf hops justifies the cost of pelletizing the pellets. I have been wrong before tho.

Either way, awsome prices, I'd make an order if I just didnt order 10 more lbs...

I have a thread up for an Indianapolis Hop Buy if anyone is interested.

Splitting 10 pounds.

You are very right....... Maybe I should buy some. Now I need to decide what hops I use the most often so I can charge it up. :ban:

I need to get a food saver. I have thought about it before but it wasn't until I messed around with the hops storage tool on beersmith just now that I was convinced. Sounds like a good thing to search craigslist.com for.

I know that can drive an hour or so from my house and see the great Washington state hop ranches

david_42 I think is in the same boat.

but the hops shortages will continue, an unfortunate fire, a poor growing season etc.......

Just ordered a pound each of cascade, northern brewer, and willamette. I thought this looked like a decent mix for some american and english and possibly german ales?

Great prices though I'm waiting on a shipping price....

Does anyone know how much shipping costs usually are for a few pounds of pellets - Less than $10? I would like to buy 2lbs, though I don't want to get stuck with another hefty shipping fee, if I can get the product cheaper somewhere else. Washington state is a long way from New York. Thanks

I suggest you request they call you with shipping before processing your order.

It has always been reasonable in the past when I ordered.

I ordered 1 lb. of cascade a few weeks ago and it cost $11 to ship to Michigan. Probably be not much more for 2 lbs though.

I paid $24 for that pound!! I better grab another lb of something quick!

Yeah, Damn you all to hell! I just got 4 lbs that should come in by the mid week here. I spit on you...with beer flavored kisses.

Also, I sent them an email a month back and found out that to CA it was some odd $10 for 5lbs. I wouldn't worry for us left coasters, but for you on the east, it will most likely run you about $20. I ship stuff all the time and for 35lbs to the East coast on Fed Ex is about $40, it just isn't linear on the way down. So buy more hops rather than just a pound in order to get a great price. 1lb=$10 shipping, 3lb=$11 shipping. That sort of thing.

I got 2 lbs from them a few months back. I broke it up into 1 ounce baggies, put two baggies in each quart size "Rynolds handi-vac" bag and vacuum sealed them. Most have held the vacuum really well and actually don't take up too much room in the freezer now that they are nicely compressed. I'd say twice as much as pellets of similar weight. (I love whole hops)

I just got a shipping quote to my house. 20 pounds for $23 in shipping, that aint bad!
The group hop buy is rocking!

It takes forever for it to ship all the way to Florida. Just opened a pound each of Magnum-GR and Willamette...and today I'm receiving a pound each of Hersbrucker-GR and Centennial. Hopefully with these 4 varieties plus a half-pound of leftover Sorachi and I can cover most styles.

The Indy/Louisville hop buy is up to 22 pounds!

I am going to spend an entire day splitting and sealing these things and filling orders. I will probably be hammered by the end of the day.

The more you order, the better the deal on the shipping.

A pound of each. Heavier than I thought! 19oz, 19oz, 20oz, 19oz. I like their pounds :mug:

Oh wow, they're back to overfilling! :ban:

I'm getting in on this, just too cheap to pass. An oz of Willamette is still $4 at the lhbs.
Freshops is still high though at ~$2/oz.

Hehe the cascade is tricky, they put the 5lb increment above the 1lb. No I don't really need $82 worth of cascade. :)

Wow, my freezer has too many hops in it right now but how do you pass up this?

I could always use some centennial though. Looks like I will have to plan my next 6 beers and see what I need.
