I was thinking of doing a smash with Red X, but don't know what hops to use. I don't have any experience with this as a base malt. Let me know what you think :mug:
 
I think you can use any hops you seem fit and especially like.

You could treat the beer as a Red/amber ale, so many hops go with these styles.

Centennial, Cascade, Citra, Amarillo, Simcoe, etc. all these classic! hops will do the job. You could also do something different and go with australian/NZ hops. Or maybe newer varieties of US hops: Denali, Eureka!, Azacca, etc.
 
Thanks for the reply haze, I was also thinking along these lines, big bold American hops, simcoe or centennial. It would also be fun to get some experimental or new stuff I haven't used before. :mug:

I did redx beer, not a smash, but pretty close, added some wheat and carapils. Did it with zombie dust hop schedule. Was really good. I can look it up if you want, but just treat redx like 2row, just expect a darker product. Little more malt flavor
