I want to get a better padlock than what i currently have on my apartment basement storage locker. I know if someone really wants to get in, they will but can anyone suggest a quality padlock?

I took a forced entry class last fall at one of our regional fire schools, and the instructor gave us a few pointers when it comes to padlocks:

1) As a general rule, the shinier the lock is, the more junk it is. Never buy a polished chrome padlock. (The saying "You can polish a turd" comes to mind)

2) If Harbor Freight carries it, you don't want it. For instance, this lock was defeated by rookies in the class using common tools... in less than two minutes.

After sitting through that class, I can tell you you're exactly right, a padlock is only going to stop the honest crooks. Unless you spend biiig bucks -- I can't remember the manufacturer off hand, but the instructor brought in a padlock he had gotten from a shipping company. Made in northern Europe if I remember correctly. He had taken it to 18 different fire schools - and let hundreds of students try to defeat it - and you could barely see a mark in it.

Just ****y-trap it with an old ax from the rafters. They open door. Ax swings down from above and bamb lights out......

i work in self-storage and cut a few dozen locks a year. stay away from masterlock. even the shrouded ones are easy enough to cut with bolt cutters. you want to go with an all steel shrouded padlock. something like this one, although you can find them cheaper online fore about $15-20:

the only way to get through those is with an angle grinder.
