I have given up on trying to get my hands on some ZD and decided to brew my own. I found this recipe and wanted to get some feedback . It is form Maine Brewing Supply. I was just concerned with the amount of Citra and wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be too over powering.
Batch size-5 Gallon
Yeat-Safale S-04
6.6lbs liquid light malt extract
1lb Munich II
.5lb Crystal 60
.5lb CaraPils
.5lb Melanoidin

1oz Citra (90min)
1oz Citra (15min)
1oz Citra(10min)
1oz Citra(5 min)
1oz Citra(1min)

3oz Citra (secondary dry hop,10-14 days)

Thanks

so 7.12 oz of Citra or 9 oz, I see that the malts/grains/yeast are basically the same, But like I said is 9 oz too much Citra?

I don't think so. I actually just brewed a citra dipa a couple of weeks ago with 9oz in the boil and 6oz in the dryhop. Just did the second dryhop yesterday and it smells amazing!

Thanks, I have never used Citra and have read where people complain about too much will give your beer a "cat piss" flavor, didn't want that for sure. I am getting a pound of Citra from my LHBS because it's only $4 more than buying it by the oz.

I used the recipe here, and it was great! second batch I dry hopped with citra and simcoe and it was amazing.

the cost of a pound should always be less than it costs for 16 individual ounces.
I think maybe you just wrote this wrong and you saved 4$?

I love citra, used a lot of it a few times and no cat pee smell.
its a great fruity hop.
big nose on dryhop.
I don't think more than 2 or 3oz of it is needed for big citra fruity aroma.
I recently dry hopped a batch with 3oz Cascade, 2 Citra, .5 apollo, and .5 centennial and it has awesome aroma.

No $4 dollar difference between 16oz (1lb) and 9oz individually packaged, I was speaking recipe specific amounts.

Taking the advice I have received here I will just follow the recipe and let it ride.

Thanks

I would not dry hop with the whole 3oz for 10 to 14 days. You'll get some nasty flavor extracted from the hops if you leave them that long. I would double dry hop however. Split the hops in half, into two muslin bags. Do the first half for 5 days, then remove them and do the second bag of hops for another 5. You'll get a lot more Citra hop aroma doing it that way. That's how I dry hop my IPA's, and it works really well.

Thanks for the advice, This is my first time dry hopping. I will take your advice. I will post here when I brew and let everyone know how it turns out.
