We'll i just finished brewing my Fat Tire Amber Ale Clone and the beer came out with a higher than expected gravity. I was shooting for 1.051 and was closer to 1.060. I have already had some folks on this board let me know possibly why my OG was so high, but i had forgot to ask everyone What this high OG would do to my FG Should my FG be? The recipe called for a FG of 1.011-1.012. We'll i was curious since my OG was so much higher than expected is it correct for me to assume that the FG will be around 1.021-1.022? If anyone can help clear this up for me it would be nice. Until then i will sit and watch my Air Lock Bubble away!

Primary 1: Austin Homebrew's Fat Tire Amber Ale Clone
Primary 2:Empty
Conditioning: American Wheat
Drinking: Amber Ale
On Deck: Apfelwein ( still can not pronounce it!)

Was this an extract kit? More than likely if it was the OG was high due to you either A) Checking before you add your top off water, or B) Not completely mixing top off water and wort. If either of those are the cases you can expect the FG to be right around what the recipe stated.

It's really going to depend on what caused the higher OG. If there are more fermentable sugars in the wort then the outcome will be a higher ABV. However, if the higher OG was a result of unfermentable sugar, then your FG will also be higher.

What was your recipe? If you post that, someone may be able to help more specifically.

The recipe i used was

3 oz Biscuit Malt
1/2 lb Crystal 90L
6 oz Munich Malt
1/4 lb Victory Malt
7lbs Extra Pale Extract

3/4 oz northern Brewer
1/2oz Hersbrucker
1/3 oz Willamette.

I did take my reading right after i added my water. That is possibly the reason. I did follow the instructions with the exception of eyeballing the hops. I guess i should have checked it again after i aerated the wort nd mixed the wort and water up better. I guess this is a hard question for you guys to answer haha sorry.

Yah I'm gonna have to say its because the top off water and wort weren't mixed well enough. I wouldn't worry at all.
