I boiled 60 eggs in my alum brew pot for Easter. Now the aluminum has turned dark and almost black.

What happened to it and how can I fix this?

Did it look something like this?

Its supposed to be like that. Its a layer of oxidation that builds up on the inside of the pot. This will protect whatever is being boiled in it from picking up a metallic taste.

You've already fixed it. Now that it's seasoned it's ready to boil.

What did you use it for prior?

Mine never gets quite that black. It's a layer of oxidation, as someone else noted, and mine only approached being that dark after a soak in oxyclean solution...a subsequent PBW soak returned it to dull gray, which it's been ever since.

yeah but you dont have too
