I'm just getting started in home brewing and want to upgrade my brew kettle. I'm still doing 5 gallon extract brewing currently while learning the ropes but hope to move to brew in a bag or full AG in the future.

Found a used 15 gallon Blichmann g1 with false bottom for 200 and a used Keggle with ball lock, thermometer, and volume sight for 150.

Is the Blichmann worth the 50 extra or are there better alternatives?

I would say the Blichmann is worth it since it comes with a false bottom. It'll come in handy when/if you start doing BIAB. I assume you are using a burner?

If you are interested in 10 gallon brews I would suggest a 20 gallon kettle for BIAB.

Yes I am using a burner. Made the mistake of doing my first batch on an electric stove top which took forever to heat.

That's a good price for a g1 with a false bottom. I'd choose that. If it's on cl, you can probably get it a bit cheaper too. Maybe $175 or $180...

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will go with the Blichmann. Talked to the guy and he is set on 200 for it but after seeing the replies on here I feel like I am getting a good deal especially for my little start up home brewing.

They hold their value well. If you take care of it you should be able to recover your money if and when you decide to go with a larger kettle.

Jmo, kettle over keggle all day long. Kettles are purpose designed for boiling / mashing. Kegs are purpose designed for serving / kegging.
