I got an American brown ale kit but want to make it a little more creamy or a bit more malty. Anyone have an easy way to do that?

Carapils or dextrine powder can add body.

Creamy is so subjective but a small amount of C20 ads a touch of sweetness without much extra color.

If I were doing extract 5 gallon, I would steep .5 # each of carapils and C20 as you water is warming up to about 155/160. If you have an LHBS both should be shelf items but if you have to order, I would suggest a low attenuation ale yeast like S-04 as well.

What is the kit. I did a Northern Brewer Nut brown extract kit as one of my first few brews. I was reading reviews and lots of folks added various things to bump up the ABV. I followed the recipe with no additions and it turned out well.

Just wondering if you are tempted to make additions based on reviewers or something else. For most of the big vendors I would imagine a fair amount of thought goes into their kit recipes. Perhaps I am naive in this regard.

If it is a tried and true recipe from a big vendor I would leave it as is. Try it and if you want to make changes brew it again. Without a baseline sample it's hard to know what to do.

If you have already tried the base recipe you can disregard this rambling post of mine.

Got the kit as a gift from a local brew store. Since then I've tried a few browns and found one I liked that was a little creamy and abit more sweeter than the rest. I think it was called sluggins.
