So I am making a cascadian dark ale or black ipa and I steeped my grains for 30 mins but instead of bringing to a boil and removing and then adding the extracts, I just put the extract in right away and then brought to a boil. Is that going to mess anything up or do I need to adjust my boil time?

If you're not careful it might turn into beer.

You'll be fine. With extract brews I prefer adding it before it starts to boil. Watch it though. It will want to boil over and make a huge mess as soon as you turn around.

No, assuming it's regular extract and not hopped extract. The main possibles issues with boiling extract for 60 minutes are caramelization and darkening of the wort. Neither is horrible. You don't have to worry at all about the darkening of the wort since its a black ale anyway. As far as caramelization, it's possible that you may get some slight burnt/sweet caramel off flavors from the extract scorching at the bottom of the kettle along with being boiled for 60 minutes. Just make sure that extract is mixed in really good before and during the boil to help prevent that from happening. It's always best to add the bulk of the extract towards the end of the boil

I do this with all of my darker ales/stouts. Just keep whirlpooling it until the boil starts.
